Stripes & Bows

The best way to start a new blog is to feature one of my favorite times of the year - Fashion Week. Since I spend a majority of my time in Toronto while my beau continues to film his television show, it's much easier to get to New York Fashion Week from Toronto than a 5.5 hour flight from home in Los Angeles. After Miss Universe in Miami, I caught a nasty flu that left me bedridden for 12 days and so I was afraid I was going to miss New York Fashion Week altogether. Luckily, my immune system cooperated and I was able to recover in time and being bedridden actually gave me time to rest and organize my looks throughout the busy upcoming week. I always look forward to New York Fashion Week. It's crazy to think that I have been a part of it in some way for the past six years - attending seven seasons and modeling in four seasons. While modeling is fun (strutting down a runway gives me such a rush), I think attending NYFW is even more fun because I get to style myself (no, I currently do not use a stylist) and oversee numerous designers' latest collections up close. My first big show of the week was Mara Hoffman, and what she is noted for with her collections are pops of color and patterns (for her FW15 show, she incorporated Star Wars and Tatooine into her collection which made this Star Wars geek's heart flutter with joy!). For that day, I chose to wear an Alice & Olivia jacket with a statement bow and a striped dress by Amanda Uprichard. I paired the look with a Rebecca Minkoff clutch and Whistles mules. To keep warm against the below freezing temperatures, I layered an Asos coat on top of my look. But let's be honest - during NYFW, no matter how cold it is outside, coats become optional. We were able to capture some shots of my look outside Lincoln Center in the falling snow just after the show (a few other street style photographers captured some shots too).
